Tens of thousands of Christians go on short-term mission trips around the world each year. Those believers are a blessing to the churches where they worship and serve and to the people in the cultures they visit who are served, saved and strengthened through their loving efforts. Those who go on short-term mission trips are often changed by the experience, committing themselves to the financial support of a mission effort or making a commitment to become missionaries themselves. May God bless everyone involved in short-term missions.
This book is designed to provide short-term missionaries with insight into: 1) a biblical theology of mission, 2) a biblical but contextualized message, 3) a basic understanding of the role of culture in cross-cultural missions, and 4) some basic guidelines for short-term mission that will help make the experience more pleasant and fruitful for everyone involved.
This work is longer than some on the subject because Rogers takes time to review the nature of the mission and the content of the message. All too often, in our quest for better methods, we have lost sight of the message we are going to proclaim, and have forgotten the nature of the mission in which we share. Mission, Message & Methods is a healthy antidote. It grounds the discussion of methods in a clear understanding of the mission and message.

Glenn Rogers offers a valuable resource with Mission, Message & Methods which reflects on God’s ambition to restore His relationship with every tribe on earth. Without adequate familiarity of “what God wants” in regard to this agenda, our short-term mission work predictably defaults to self-serving projects. Rogers insists that we accept a much larger role in this redemptive endeavor. This book provides churches, mission leaders and workers a tool to calibrate their mission efforts in a biblically oriented and culturally relevant way.

European Mission Facilitator with Missions Resource Network
While most books on the subject dive directly into the “how to,” Mission, Message & Methods gives us the “why to.” I know of no other volume that even attempts to provide the theological framework Dr. Rogers so ably builds in his sections on Mission and Message. It makes the Methods section even more practical. Its many “Reflection and Discussion Activities” should make this an invaluable resource for the preparation of groups embarking on mission trips.
